Scouting Report

One of the stickiest corners in the class with quick, fluid movement ability to mirror receivers; allowed a 44.4% completion percentage on 32 targets in his final season. Earned All-Big 12 honors and can align as a boundary or nickel corner. Smaller frame, shorter arms, and a pattern of penalties (13 flags in two seasons) are the areas that need addressing at the NFL level.

Player Comparison

Jarvis Brownlee Jr.

Strengths

  • Mirror-and-match footwork that's absolutely nasty - recovers from disadvantageous positions with sudden, twitchy adjustments that leave receivers wondering what happened
  • Runs routes better than some receivers he's covering, anticipating breaks and decelerating simultaneously to smother throwing windows
  • Leverage manipulation that's PhD-level advanced - shrinks passing lanes against taller receivers and uses the sideline like an extra defender
  • Zone coverage awareness shows up huge on tape - tracks multiple route concepts developing and baits quarterbacks into dangerous throws
  • Physical at the catch point without drawing flags, displaying excellent timing when turning to locate and attack the football
  • Doesn't panic against double moves or tempo changes - maintains disciplined eye level and trusts his recovery speed
  • Run support willingness jumps off the film with quick downhill triggers and solid striking points when he arrives clean
  • Special teams versatility across kick coverage, punt return, and field goal block units adds immediate Day One value

Areas to Improve

  • Hip stiffness shows up when transitioning from backpedal, forcing speed turns instead of smooth pivots more often than ideal
  • Gets too loose over the middle of the field on slants and posts, allowing separation he wouldn't tolerate on boundary routes
  • Height limitations at 6-foot even create mismatches against true X receivers in contested catch situations down the field
  • Block destruction technique needs serious work - gets stuck on stalk blocks and lacks the hand usage to shed effectively
  • Tackling form breaks down occasionally, dropping his head for shoulder throws instead of wrapping up through contact
